The prison had a hospital on the top floor of the building. The bodies of those who died at Victoria Prison (this site) were were examined by the coroner in this mortuary. Bodies were kept cool by water pipes supplying cold water to the concrete table.

A 'sally port' is often seen at the side of castles and is a secure, controlled entry point. Victoria Prison has these secured entry points in every block. This red circle was a security measure used in the administation of medicine. Only one prisoner at a time was allowed in the red circle while the medical prison officer would sit on the other side of the gate.

One of the prison's more well known prisoners was former Vietnamese leader and revolutionary, Ho Chi-minh. He escaped the French authorities in 1930 and came to Hong Kong, only to be arrested in 1931. He described how prisoners were only allowed for 15 minutes a day, in a narrow courtyard with towering prison walls all around. This location between A and B Halls seems to match his description.

This is what a cell looked like before the prison was decomissioned. Each cell usually housed three prisoners, and contained one single bed and one bunk bed.

In the 1970s Victoria Prison started housing illegal immigrants, and in 1980 Victoria Immigration Centre was set up inside to manage them prior to repatriation or deportation. This gate is the gate where many hopes were dashed as the immigrant was handed over to immigration department and departure.

In a number of museums in Hong Kong the visitor may now notice the politicalisation of the displays as the Chinese Communist Party narrative has become blatantly more noticeable - displays such as this have become much more sensitive and have been removed around Hong Kong. Protests and remembrances of the 1989 student protests were once commonplace, but have since stopped since the hated National Security Law came into effect in 2020. "The use of the term 'national security' is particularly objectionable because the concept has frequently been used in China to criminalise the peaceful exercise of the rights of expression and to persecute those with legitimate demands like democracy and human rights.
