23 Jul 2009 - Loch Ness, Scotland

The west side of Loch Ness is the quick but also busy route. These photos of Loch Ness were taken from the east side. Urquhart castle is best seen from the west but we didn't have the chance to see it because of lack of time. It is perched on the edge of the Loch and is a dramatic site despite being just ruins. It was repeatedly sacked and damaged over the centuries but it came to be in the form it is now after being blown up in 1692 to prevent the Jacobites from using it.

Driving back from Inverness along the east side of Loch Ness is by far more scenic and the roads are much quieter. The usual fantastic views are on offer and as I came over a hill I was greeted by this magnificent sight.
