Estartit

Estartit

Estartit is what you would expect from a little fishing village that has turned into a magnet for mass tourism; a charmless town, crowded beaches, and a night time culture devoted to getting people drunk as quick as possible. Some might call that perfect.

That's a little cruel as Estartit does provide good golfing and scrub diving ,along with a good marina, but these are opposite ends of the market.

The Highlights

  1. Getting kicked out of our campsite after the first night.
  2. Getting kicked out of our apartment after the second night.
  3. Fleeing our final apartment escaping at 6AM on a mad dash from our apartment.

Badly behaved youth

(Written in 2021) If it wasn't for the civil war that had been heating up in Yugoslavia in 1991, I wouldn't have found myself on a coach going to a place that I've never heard of. Then again, why would I? Estartit is just another sun, sea and sand resort with nothing else to give it credit for and as a teenager my knowledge of Spanish geography was poor to say the least.

So there I was, with some friends from school, and someone who I hardly knew, on a coach on the M6 being obnoxious at the back of a bus with families also aboard.

Our resort for the two weeks was intended to be a campsite but we were promptly kicked off site after the first night so we had to find alternative accommodation the next day. Bad behaviour led to us being kicked out of here on the next night as well but on our third day we found a good apartment which we stayed in for the duration of the two week holiday.

There were antics galore, all quite disgraceful really. A group on holiday is like a team and as with every team needs a good mix of skills amongst its members. Our group had its very own shi* specialist amongst those with other specialist skills. A more useful skill one of us had was as a singer which won us a crate of beer in a Karaoke contest.

On our last day we left at 6AM, though it would be accurate to say it was more like an escape and evasion before the owner of the complex saw the state we had left the apartment. I remember the mad dash in the early morning getting as far away as possible, sweating rivers as we carried heavy bags.

On our return to the UK we found out that the holiday reps next door who had befriended us were kicked out just because of their association with us. So, remind me why it is that British youths have such a bad reputation when abroad?

Hi! I’ve been travelling since the 90's and have visited 48 countries - not many really when the world has over 240 countries and states.

I'm lucky in that I live abroad, so for me, even with COVID devastating the world, the travel experience hasn't really gone away. Anyway, I can't wait to share more of my experiences, drop me a message and I'll get back to you ASAP.
